The Story Behind the Name
Once upon a time, there was a little girl named Samantha. Samantha loved her name and was always proud of it. She felt that it was the perfect American name. But the thing she liked most about her name was why her parents chose it. You see, before her parents decided to have kids, they discussed how their favorite commercial was a Hallmark commercial. The commercial started off with two kids, named Mikey and Sam, sitting under a porch wearing football helmets. Mikey says to Sam, “Promise we’ll be friends forever?” Sam then replies, “Promise.” Then the narrator comes in and explains how Sam moved away but that every Christmas, Mikey and Sam kept in touch by sending each other Hallmark cards. The commercial then shows some of the cards they sent to each other. The last card it shows is from Sam to Mikey and it says that Sam is going to be in town for Christmas and wants see Mikey. It then shows a scene of a handsome man standing in a train station with dark hair and brown eyes. A train pulls up and, from the last car, you see a gorgeous blonde hair, blue eyed girl get off and say, “Mikey?” Then, the man replies, “Sam?” Next, the narrator comes back in and says something about Hallmark and that Sam and Mikey end up together.
Samantha always told this story to all of her friends. She loved the story and always had wanted to see the commercial herself yet her parents could never find it.
But on her thirteenth birthday, in front of all her family and friends, her dad told her that, after much work, he had finally found the commercial. So, he put it in a DVD player and played it for everyone to see.

Her parents had gotten it all wrong. It wasn’t Mikey and Sam. It was Freddie and Sam- and Sam was the boy. Her fairy tale name was a mistake and forever, she was a misnomer.
